BUPPY C

When did you first Start DJing?
Buppy was 16 when he first started playing in parties on his estate. He had a little set called Channel one (not to be confused with the other Channel One)
What was the first record bought?
Buppy’s first record was “Polly Put the Kettle On” on a reggae beat!
Buppy started buying records with his paper round money and before long he was ordering his records from Randy’s in Jamaica. Every 2 weeks he would send the money from his part time job.
When he was 14 he used to go out with his sisters and friends to house parties with Ashley’s Dad and Shorty who educated him in the music and fuelled his music mania.
Buppy grew up listening to his Dad’s music collection and fondly remembers hearing, “Hey Fatman leave My Girl Alone” on a Bluebeat label. Buppy used to crawl over to the record player and try to put the records on. To save the family’s set, his mother bought him a record player of his own.
His mother liked Jim Reeves, John Holt and Gladys Knight so that gave him his appreciation of the softer sensual side of music.
What Sound Systems have you worked with?
Buppy has always worked on his own but followed Duke Reid, Coxsone, Fatman, Sufferer, Danny King, Lord David (who also did house parties as Duke Denton), TWJ(who went on to open up Nightmoves), Sounds Organisation. It was all about listening to top sounds and top sound quality.
What is your proudest achievement as a DJ?
Buppy has been on Vibes since it started around about December 1991. A friend of his called Liz said that some friends of hers had started up a station. Buppy had an interview and got the job!
Buppy proudest of making people happy worldwide
